A few months ago, I met a woman who had recently relocated to Boston from New York. As we chatted, the conversation landed on the topic of restaurants. She said, “There’s no city with better food than New York.”
New Yorkers often get a bad reputation for being stubborn, but she’s right. The city offers every type of cuisine you could imagine. With my unbiased perspective, here are my top restaurant recommendations in the city that never sleeps.
ZZ’s Club
I had the pleasure of celebrating my friend Julia’s birthday at ZZ’s Club, and it turned out to be the best meal I’ve ever had. ZZ’s Club is an exclusive, members-only spot created by Major Food Group, and it truly lives up to the hype.
Julia had ordered an assortment of sushi for the table, which was fantastic, but the real surprise came when we indulged in dessert—Japanese melon. It might sound unusual, but trust me when I say it was absolutely phenomenal. The melon is cultivated in a way that all its juice is concentrated in a single fruit, creating an incredibly rich flavor. If you ever get the chance to visit, don’t even hesitate to accept the invitation.
BONDST
The other day, I had a spontaneous craving and wanted to visit BONDST on my own, sitting at the bar with a lychee martini in hand, ready to enjoy their tuna crispy rice and tuna tarts. There’s something about this restaurant that just feels perfectly in tune with everything I love—its atmosphere, the flavors, and the vibe always make me want to return. Whether it’s the intricate flavors or the buzz of the place, BONDST never disappoints.
One White Street
One White Street is a restaurant I dream of turning into my second home. The space, a historic Tribeca townhouse, has a unique charm that’s hard to resist, and the furniture is so stylish I could see it in my own living room one day. The staff is warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, making you feel like part of the family as you dine. While they offer an a la carte menu, we opted for a more curated experience, and it truly made for a memorable meal. If you’re looking for a place to savor a truly special dinner, this is the spot
L’Artusi
L'Artusi is a classic New York must-try, and it’s one of those places you’ll never forget once you’ve experienced it. Although reservations can be hard to come by, trust me—it’s completely worth the effort. If you go, make sure you order the carpaccio and don’t skip the olive oil cake.
L’industrie Pizzeria West Village
Yes, the line is long, but L’industrie Pizzeria in the West Village is well worth the wait. The pizza is solid, but it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with friends, especially with the lively atmosphere. After you grab your slices, head next door to Talea Beer Co. for a refreshing beer or two. It’s a great way to continue the night.
Sami & Susu
Located in the Lower East Side, Sami & Susu is a hidden gem that serves up seasonal dishes inspired by family recipes. The flavors change throughout the year, offering fresh takes on classic dishes.
Chinese Tuxedo
Chinese Tuxedo is known for its incredible atmosphere—combining the best of classic Chinese design with a modern, sleek, and upscale vibe. I’ll never forget the time I was dining there and someone passed out at the table next to us—just one of those unforgettable moments. The food is exceptional, with a menu full of creative twists on traditional Chinese dishes.
Carbone
No explanation needed for this one—Carbone speaks for itself. The spicy rigatoni, Caesar salad, and lobster ravioli are simply out of this world. Whether you're a first-timer or a frequent visitor, Carbone never fails to deliver an unforgettable meal that’s both luxurious and comforting.
Via Carota
Via Carota is one of those places you simply must go to at least once. The vibe is quintessentially New York, and the food is equally impressive. Don’t even think about skipping the zucchini fries.
Polo Bar
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience in New York, Polo Bar is one of the best spots in the city. Although it’s been years since I last visited, I still remember the atmosphere vividly—the equestrian theme is a nod to Ralph Lauren's iconic style and adds a cool touch to the dining experience.
Mark’s Off Madison
I had the chance to visit Mark’s Off Madison right after running the Brooklyn Half Marathon, and I couldn’t have asked for a better post-race meal. This cozy spot delivers comforting, delicious food, and the fries are a must-order—trust me, they’re worth it.
Emilio’s Ballato
Emilio’s Ballato has a distinct old-school charm that’s hard to find in many places today. It’s got that “mafia movie” vibe, but in the best possible way—think vintage photos on the walls and an atmosphere that feels like you’ve stepped back in time.
